Moving, Building or Renovating? Start Here.

Step 1. Begin by selecting a site.

With six square miles and 62 million square feet of industrial space, Elk Grove Village Business Park offers space for practically any type of business. You can find the available sites that fit your needs with our interactive map.

Step 2. Apply for zoning approval and licensing.

Zoning approval confirms that your business is compatible with the zoning district and is required prior to occupying the building. We strongly suggest that you obtain zoning approval before entering into a sale or lease agreement.

Most new businesses can expect to receive a response to their zoning application within five business days. After you complete the Zoning Application, our team will notify your business if you need a business license.*

*If our review of your zoning application determines that your business is required to go through a review by the Plan Commission, you can anticipate that the process will take approximately twelve weeks.

Submit your free zoning application online here:

Licensing is required for some business types and must be renewed annually. Every business engaged in retail sales requires a business license. Additionally, certain other businesses—contractors, day care centers and caterers—also require a license.

Renewal forms are mailed in mid-April to businesses already registered. Renew on time to avoid late fees.

Apply or renew your license online

Businesses can apply for or renew a license online, call the Finance Department at 847-357-4000, or stop by the Finance Counter in the Municipal Building at 901 Wellington Avenue, Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Please note: Certain types of businesses may require additional licenses from Cook County or the State of Illinois. For example, a business involving food service, may need to obtain a “Retail Food Establishment License” from the Cook County Department of Public Health.

Step 3. Apply for permits and schedule inspections.

Permits are required for nearly all construction, remodeling and repairs. Here’s what to consider when applying:

  • The review process takes just 10 working days or less
  • Permits are required for any work involving the building structure
  • Permits are required for site work on the exterior of a property
  • Your plans must meet all code requirements before they can be approved
  • Be sure to submit a complete set of permit drawings that clearly identify all work to be done
  • Review our Online Permitting Guide for more information

Questions? Contact our Community Development Department at 847-357-4220.

Inspections will be required when work is being done on your site. For example, foundation and concrete work must be inspected prior to concrete being poured, and inspections for any framing, plumbing, mechanical or electrical installations must also be approved. Our certified inspectors are committed to working with you to keep your project on track and minimize delays.

To schedule an inspection, contact the Department of Community Development at least 24 hours before the inspection is needed at 847-357-4220, or schedule an inspection online.
