With 50 years in business and a reputation for pairing immense global buying power with a “customer-first” culture, MSI has become one of the nation’s largest distributors of flooring, countertop, wall tile, and hardscaping products.

With over $2.5 billion in annual revenue, 3,000+ U.S. employees, and a global supply chain supporting more than 400,000 jobs, MSI has grown into a powerhouse in the surfaces industry. Its steady expansion—now spanning 50+ state-of-the-art facilities across the U.S. and Canada, including Elk Grove Village—keeps remodelers, builders, and big-box retailers stocked with trend-setting materials. As the company continues to launch innovative products and open new branches, the original dream of founders Manu and Rika Shah remains at the heart of its remarkable growth story.

“Over our five decades we’ve never had a layoff due to lack of work. We grow by helping our customers and partners grow first—that’s the heart of MSI.”

— Hetal Kamdar, Vice President, Midwest

Delivering what consumers want

Founded in 1975 by Manu and Rika Shah, MSI began as a two-person operation run from the basement of the Shahs' home in Fort Wayne, Indiana, importing monument blocks. While still working out of their basement, they boldly invested their entire savings to fulfill a contract supplying black granite for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.—a pivotal moment that set the course for their future. Today, MSI is a global enterprise, sourcing premium porcelain, quartz, granite, marble, and more from every continent to serve homeowners and commercial projects across North America. The company attributes its success to long-standing supplier partnerships, technology-driven logistics, and a steadfast commitment to delivering quality products at accessible prices.

Meeting the needs of the Midwest

Opening the Elk Grove Village facility in 2006 shortened delivery times across the Midwest thanks to the proximity to O’Hare International Airport and easy interstate access. Their move to Elk Grove Village fueled MSI’s Midwest region to become their #3 revenue-generating region within the United States and anchored continued investment in Chicagoland.
