The Elk Grove Village Retail Façade Improvement Program offers 50% reimbursement—up to $150,000—for exterior upgrades to existing retail buildings. A total of $500,000 in funding is available, with grants awarded on a first-come, first-served basis while funds last.
Step 1: Confirm Project Details
To be eligible for a Retail Façade Improvement Grant:
- Only existing retail buildings are eligible.
- Office and industrial buildings are not eligible.
- New construction projects are not eligible.
- The program only funds exterior façade improvements.
- Proposed improvements must be separate and distinct from any work being done under other Village tax incentive programs.
- The building must be located in Elk Grove Village, Illinois.
- Applications for improving a single unit or a portion of a strip shopping center will not be accepted.

Step 2: Eligible Improvements
Eligible Improvements
Eligible façade improvements include, but are not limited to:
- Restoration or replacement of exterior architectural features
- Installation or repair of windows and doors
- Exterior painting on the facade
- Installation of awnings or canopies
- Enhancements to exterior building lighting fixtures
Ineligible Improvements
The following are examples of ineligible expenses:
- Interior renovations or improvements
- Roof repairs or replacements
- Parking lot resurfacing or repairs
- Fencing that is not integral to the façade design
- Routine maintenance or repairs
- Improvements not visible from the public right-of-way
- Landscaping
- Sidewalk replacements

- Note: these guidelines are used for multiple incentive programs and therefore may include items that are not covered by the Facade Improvement Program.
